Happy Heart Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today, we are supposed to be focusing on love and all things heart related. To me, this means add flax seed! Romantic, huh?

I am taking a quick break from the Road Trip Series this week and wanted to bring you a new smoothie recipe. It can be easy to get in a smoothie rut, always using the same ingredients and coming up with the same results. This heart-y (get it?) smoothie is super heart healthy and tastes as good as it looks. Because it uses juice concentrate, it is a little extra sweet and should be considered a special treat instead of a daily staple.

 Heart-y Smoothie

  • 1/3 cup grape juice concentrate
  • 1/3 cup cranberry juice concentrate
  • 2 cups strawberries
  • 2 scoops protein powder (I like Jay Robb’s Egg White)
  • 3 T. ground flaxseed
  • 1-2 cups water

Begin with one cup of water, blend and add more for desired consistency. This should make 3-4 smoothies!  

Something really strange happens every time my husband and I take a picture together. Our love just radiates. See?
